The Artist Café, a family-run restaurant in Cheney, celebrated its first-year anniversary last Wednesday, Jan. 5. The restaurant is run by Amor Canaday, an immigrant from the Philippines, her two sisters and their daughters. They founded the establishment with an underlying theme of wanting to bring ethnic foods to Cheney and promote diversity.
Because of the outstanding quality of food, their friendly service and artistically interesting environment, the café has been quite successful and remains an excellent dining-out option for EWU students.
The Artist Café has affordable prices too. In fact, during the month of January, they are promoting their new menu by offering all lunch entrée items for only $5 and 15 percent off any dinner entrée. For students 21 and over, The Artist Café now offers a variety of imported and domestic beers and wines, some of which are otherwise difficult to find in Cheney. They will also be holding raffles every Friday. Customers get a raffle ticket every time they order lunch or dinner.
At the café’s one-year anniversary party they offered several Filipino dishes, as well as other international cuisines.
Canaday and her family invited several members of the press as well as the Cheney Chief of Police, a few EWU faculty members, and employees from Cheney Cable, all people who have been a help to the restaurant’s success in the area.
Amor and her family are appreciative of the success that they have found here in Cheney and are now giving back to the international community. They have pledged to donate all of their tips directly to the United Nations Children’s Fund--U.N.I.C.E.F.’s Tsunami Relief Fund, in an effort to support the children of the “Tsunami Generation.”
The Artist Café, as a local restaurant, offers EWU students an easy, practical way to go about donating towards this relief effort.
It’s simple; the next time you want to go out and enjoy excellent, affordable international food here in Cheney, you can also donate some money towards the tsunami relief fund. We are fortunate here in Cheney to have this unique family-owned restaurant, dedicated to promoting diverse cultures through outstanding food.
The Artist Café is definitely worth checking out!
