The June 2, 2008 University Recreation Center Advisory Council (URCAC) meeting was fairly brief.

The meeting opened with reports from ASEWU President Evan Buelt, University Recreation Center (URC) Tenant Representative Melissa Elfering, and Substance Abuse Prevention Coordinator in the Health and Wellness Center, Jane Tiedemann.

Buelt's report came from the memorandum document which acknowledges the students' concerns about the recreation center fee and is recommending a reduction in the fee for all students.

"This document is purely a recommendation and holds no governing weight," said Buelt. Buelt also told those in attendance that the percentage would be calculated by the number of days the URC was open, which is approximately a 52-percent refund.

Elfering reported that the Fitness Center move-in will be June 16 to June 21. The Center will be open June 23 (start of summer quarter). During the week of the move-in, the gym and fitness center portion of the URC will be closed and the Elm Street area by the URC will be busy while vendors bring the equipment to be set up.

Tiedemann reported that things in the Health and Wellness Center are running smoothly and there has not been a lot of traffic in their office. However, they are getting a lot of questions regarding the URC such as skate rentals, who can use the facility, etc.

Also presented at the URCAC meeting was the second draft of the URC Event Planning Policy. The main discussion related to this document was what will happen during the summer. Chris Benz, student at large, began this discussion by voicing his concerns. Shawn King, business and finance representative, said this summer will be unique because there will be ice available all summer whereas next year, the multi-purpose floor, which has not yet been purchased, will be installed in the rink area.

Tom Schneider, student at large, suggested that Event Planning schedule events around popular student use times (students have priority in the URC). Elfering told those in attendance that in the past, participation in the Sports and Recreation Center drops during the summer so "students won't be as impacted [by events] as during fall, winter and spring quarters."

At the end of the discussion, Chris Benz made the motion to grant Event Planning to schedule events with the approval of David Early, director of the URC, for the summer of 2008. The motion was passed.

Also in the packet of information for the meeting was the Event Registration Form. There was no discussion about this document.
