The "Memoirs of a Geisha" cake won the award for "Most Creative" entry in contest.

Students were invited to bring their appetites, along with a love for literature last Wednesday as the Friends of the Library (FOL) held its annual Books2Eat contest in the JFK Library.

Books2Eat is a yearly event for which students, faculty, staff and community members create a completely edible creation with a literary theme. The theme can be from a book or a movie, and can be loosely interpreted or very obvious, explained Stefanie Petit.

Petit pointed out the cake titled "A Raisin in the Sun," which she explained was very minimalistic. There is a raisin on a round yellow cake with grapes wrapped around the bottom. "This [event] is just for fun," Petit emphasized. Petit was encouraging people to vote for their favorite creation as they passed through the JFK Library lobby.

Petit said they give prizes for three different categories: "My Favorite," "Best Representation" and "Most Creative." There is no artistic or culinary talent needed to enter the event, but the entries cannot be refrigerated. Entries ranged from simple rectangular cakes with Rice Krispies and raisins as decorations to a two-tiered round cake decorated with cookies and a little figure of a mouse, all completely edible.

Harriet Plucker, a member of FOL and the person behind the Books2Eat event, said the prizes for the winners are baskets filled with culinary supplies. Plucker said this is the fifth year of the Books2Eat event, and that "there are fewer entries than last year. But in my opinion, these are more elaborate." "It's a lot of fun."

At 3 p.m. May 27, Brenda Tudor announced the winner of the annual bookmark contest, revealed the posters for the second annual Eagles Who Read to Lead and finally announced the winning cakes. The winning cakes included "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" for the "My Favorite" cake, "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish" for the "Best Representation" cake and finally "Memoirs of a Geisha" for the "Most Creative" cake. The winning cakes were voted for by those who walked through the library lobby during the event.

After the winning cakes were announced and the creators claimed their baskets filled with culinary supplies, everyone who was in attendance was able to eat all of the entries. The FOL had forks, plates, tea, coffee and water for everyone who wanted to taste their favorite cake.

The event ended with all the cakes and creations being consumed by those in attendance.
