As spring quarter is winding down students are thinking about what to plan for the summer.
For those unfortunate few, like me, summer quarter is on the agenda. Trying to schedule classes around working and those sunny afternoons at the lake can be near impossible.
I want to know who thought it would be a good idea to have a summer class in the middle of the afternoon. Not only does a 1:00 class prevent students from working all day, it also is the part of the day where you most want to be laying on the beach at the lake.
If I were a professor having to teach summer classes I would not want to be sitting in a classroom all afternoon teaching college students who also don't want to be sitting in a classroom.
I have taken summer classes before but they are always at 9 or 10 in the morning and they are usually finished by noon. It seems that a lot of classes are being scheduled during the mid to late afternoon.
I would like to know why all the professors seem to think this is an ideal time for class. It prevents students from being able to have a consistent work schedule. It also prevents students from soaking in as much vitamin D as possible.
From my classroom experiences I understand that students seem to be more awake in the afternoon, but I also would argue that in the afternoon students always want professors to end class early so students can go to the lake or go do other things that are more interesting at the time.
Not all people are willing to wake up in the morning for a class but I honestly believe having class in the morning is a great start to a day and is also a lot easier to schedule things around.
I personally would rather have class in the morning than having to rush to eat lunch, drive to campus and then sit in a two hour class twice a week until August. To me this just causes frustrations for myself and my boss.
