If you're looking for a cheesy, humorless movie, Meet the Spartans would probably best fit your category.
Though it was number one at the box office, grossing over $18.5 million, my guess is that the people who walked out of that movie were hoping for some kind of refund like I was when I left. I don't think I ever watched a movie and wanted it to end as soon as possible. The only three things that really stopped me from walking out are this movie review that I'm writing up, the two friends who I went with and the hoping that it might just get better toward the end.
Unfortunately it did not, and my two buddies actually hated it more than I did.I won't bash on this movie completely because there were some funny parts during it. The only thing is, those funny parts in the movie were already shown in the trailers on TV. So seeing it for the 100th time didn't really make it funnier, it just got really old.
The scene where Leonidas is kicking everybody in the pit of death was funny. But like I said, it was already shown in the trailers so it got old fast. Also, the scene where they're having a dance-off was way too long… and oh yeah… not funny either.A lot of people will agree with me when I say 300 is one of the greatest movies ever to be made. To make fun of it was a terrible idea. In fact, attempting to make fun of it while doing a poor job was even a worse idea. Everybody knew that Spartans were badass heroic warriors, but in this movie they were portrayed as homosexuals. And having other plug-ins like Deal or No Deal or Transformers was also a bad and humorless idea.
During the end of the movie, the cast of Meet the Spartans performed a musical number to "I Will Survive," which just simply summed up the movie: terrible.
The only way this movie possibly got funded is because of the sponsors that were added into the movie. Advertising Subway, Budweiser and Gatorade probably cost those companies lots of money: enough to where the creators could have enough to show the movie on the big screen. I don't think I can eat another Subway sandwich or drink another Gatorade without thinking about this movie.
So with the success that the movie has produced last weekend, watch for it to plummet quickly this week. And if you're planning on seeing this movie, I would suggest that you save your money for something that's worth watching.
