Best music venue

The Empyrean Coffee House located in Spokane brings a down-to-earth feel to the venue given part of the building is actually a functioning coffee house. The word Empyrean actually means "the highest reaches of heaven" and they sure are well on their way to it with their java. Empyrean co-owner Chrisy Riddle said variety is what sets the place apart from other venues in Spokane. "We do a lot of different things from plays to poetry slams, metal shows, indie shows - we want to build a community and one of our goals is to foster the artistic potential in the Spokane arts community. We don't want any anyone to feel judged. It's more of a personal approach." With great coffee and an open art scene the Empyrean looks to continue its reign as the favorite music venue among Eastern students for a long time.

Best place to get it on Not too surprising: The best place to get it on is in the bedroom. The comfort of your own home seems to be the most convenient place to set the mood for Eastern students. Luke Bradshaw, a graduating senior here at EWU, said he prefers the bedroom, "because it allows for certain condiments such as whip cream, Hershey's chocolate syrup and hot baby oil to be used. Also you can't forget the candles. The bedroom is private and it allows you to explore your options." Other popular places to get it on include the classic college housing unit "the apartment," a more adventuresome place, "on the water tower" and our personal favorite, "if I told you everyone would go there and it would no longer be the best place." With all the "getting it on" hopefully students are remembering to study for their other classes - not just anatomy.

Best place to drink in Cheney

Sweeping the polls for the best place to kick a few back in Cheney with friends was the local favorite Wild Bill's. This down-to-earth drinking spot boasts a number of very interesting pieces on its wall including a Jackalope. When asked why he prefers Wild Bill's over the other bars in Cheney, EWU senior Alex Espinoza said, "It's a better social setting, the music isn't as loud as other places so it allows you to interact with other people better. The Basement can get a little too loud sometimes so Bills is the place to go for a more social time." Kat, the manager of Wild Bills, said the appeal was due to the staff. "It's everyone that works there, it's a great place to work and it rubs off on the customers, which creates a great place to drink."

Best place to not drink in Cheney

The Dorms are where you'll find all the people drinking where they're not supposed to be. When asked why she might drink in the dorms, junior Amanda Chilcote said, "You're already home, you can drink as much as you want and you don't have to get anywhere. Plus, you can buy your own and it's a lot cheaper than going to the bars. And there are no cops unless you're stupid and get them called on you."

Runners-up for best places not to drink include "a car," "the dean's office" which is normally locked anyhow, and " in class" which is smart, considering mommy and daddy aren't paying thousands of dollars a quarter for sweet little Timmy and Jessica to be imbibing behind their books. The MIP citations in The Easterner's weekly Police Beat have certainly helped educate the students on the risks taken when they shouldn't be drinking. Sarcasm free of charge.
